Sometimes the hardest step is the decision to enter therapy. Once this decision is made, it is important to find a safe, confidential environment where your thoughts and feelings can unfold. Finding someone well-trained, compassionate, and experienced to help guide you to the decisions that are right for you, is an integral part of the process of change. This is the environment I create in my office.
My Practice, The Center for Positive Solutions
As the name suggests, my therapeutic style is solution-focused. Together we explore the problems and discomforts that led you to seek therapy, and together we come up with solutions to improve your life. My style is interactive and directive, and you can count on honest feedback from me.
Your time is valuable, and your life is precious. If there are behavioral patterns that keep you from reaching your full potential, now is the time to change them. If there are fears that inhibit your success, now is the time to confront them. Some people languish for years in therapy, venting feelings and experiences to a passive, silent therapist. If that is what you seek, I'm not the right therapist for you.
Your Therapy Sessions
In our first session, I will evaluate the nature of the problems you present, paying close attention to how these problems developed and what outcomes you hope to achieve. I will come up with a treatment plan with your help, and together we will decide how we can best work together. I may suggest we meet once a week at first, but my tendency is to meet every two weeks. Between sessions, we might identify some behavioral changes you’d like to try, and together we will evaluate what works for you and what doesn’t. My ultimate goal is for you to become your own therapist by learning specific skills to identify and resolve your own problems. While my therapeutic model tends to be short-term, solution-focused in philosophy, I often have clients who return at a later time in their lives for a “tune up”, or to gain insight about a new problem.
